On first inspection beautiful hotel. The decor in the public areas is beautiful, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. Sadly our room was very tired and brown. The building is old and but in a fabulous way. You can tell its got history. But the room I had was old fashioned in the wrong way. The pine furniture was not ornate but functional and that's the only appeal it had. The walls where damaged and painted dark brown. It lacked warmth on both an ascetic nature and the temperature. No water bottle? It was very basic and I was so disappointed as the public areas are beautifully presented. No lifts, so ask for a ground floor room if you have problems with steps. The hotel has so much to offer but it clearly runs on events. The wedding photos need updating. It missed on so many levels. Location for the Shambles is excellent, no. 7 bus runs every 10 mins from outside. Parking at the hotel too, rare for York. It could be amazing, it was just OK. I cannot fault reception, super friendly and helpful.

A good hotel overall. Staff friendly, room spacious and comfortable, breakfast fine. Some recognition for Best Western Rewards status would be appropriate, hence a star knocked off.

Good size rooms with ample space to easy walk around the room. En suite with a bath and a shower. Shower packed any real pressure / power regardless if shower head setting. Decor is a little dated and hopefully over the rooms will lget spruced up. Staff all very polite and helpful. Small bar on site although we didn't use it had a decent selection of beverages on offer. Checking out day and was a shame the water had been turned off for a fault / repair - hopefully a quick fix. Walk into York.centre was around 40minutes but you are on a bus route. Breakfast was nice with a small selection of cooked options and continental style options too. Bed / pillows was really comfy with a TV in the room. Hallway outside was loud though with crwaky floorboards. Nice enough hotel and would stay again

We cannot thank Pertunia and the entire team at York Pavilion Hotel enough for making our wedding day so seamless and special. From our very first enquiry to the day of the wedding, Pertunia was incredible. Her "nothing is too much trouble" attitude took so much stress off our shoulders. She is a true professional - on the day, she was fantastic at keeping everything on track and ensuring everyone was exactly where they needed to be, all while staying calm and composed. The venue itself is beautiful, but it’s the staff that truly sets it apart. They were incredibly friendly, approachable, and attentive. In fact, so many of our guests have reached out specifically to tell us how wonderful the service was. It’s rare to find a team that makes every single guest feel so well looked after! If you’re looking for a venue that combines a stunning setting with a first-class team, look no further. We wish we could do it all over again!

Easy to locate. Lots of parking and chargeable.easy accessible entrance. Wheelchair access to ground floor rooms from rear courtyard. Accommodation very high standard with period atmosphere. Staff excellent. Food good quality. Charming former town house with sensitive conversions. Great wedding venue with lovely photographic areas around site. Convenient for City. Pleasant communal lounge. Prices average for hotel type.

This is such a beautiful hotel, with comfortable rooms and really friendly staff. It's an interesting historical building with a cosy bar area and a beautiful garden area. We have stayed twice now and really enjoy it. The breakfasts are great.

Well located for York, but also close enough to the ring road for Leeds, Selby etc. Rooms were comfortable and shower was powerful and hot. Slightly tired decor (bathroom mirror had a massive crack down the middle and the towel rail was rusty). Food in the bar and restaurant was pretty good, as was the service. Parking costs £15 for 24hrs. Only downside to the room from a work perspective was the bench stool rather than a desk chair. Minor things really.

Had a very nice Xmas dinner & dance there on 13th December. Nice big room from last time, but rather a bit light on the dinner on our plates, we did need a lot more vegetables. Had to also ask for more custard on the Xmas pudding. Didn't know about the mince pies although they weren't very nice anyway. Xmas Crackers had no snap with them.! Good music for dancing
